CONTINUE SHOPPINGKléos emerges as the contemporary evolution of a long-standing family tradition rooted in Roman Travertine. A project that takes shape from the material and unfolds through design, transforming quarrying and craftsmanship expertise into a contemporary design vision. Behind Kléos lies the experience of Società del Travertino Romano S.p.A., a company with over 100 years of history and a reference point in the Italian stone industry. A legacy built over generations, grounded in a deep knowledge of the material and a strong culture of stone. From quarry to finished product, every stage is carried out with precision and sensitivity: from block selection to processing, down to the finest detail. A process that now opens to a new design dimension. With Kléos, this tradition is reinterpreted through design. Stone is no longer just construction — it becomes language, form, and relationship: a bridge between memory and contemporaneity.
The quarries represent the true starting point of the Kléos project. Not only a place of extraction, but the concrete origin of every design decision. The chromatic and structural variety of travertine offers a living, ever-changing material capable of generating unique pieces. This complexity becomes a design resource: each collection emerges from listening to the stone and its possibilities. At Kléos, the quarry is not just production — it is an integral part of the creative process.
Within the travertine basin between Tivoli and Guidonia lies one of the most significant sites in Italian architectural culture. For centuries, this is where travertine used in monumental works has been extracted.
Today, this context remains the material reference for Kléos — not as static memory, but as an active foundation for new design languages. The quarry becomes a natural archive of forms, textures, and stratifications from which design takes shape.
Kléos is born from the meeting of material and design. Each object is the result of a balance between formal rigor, architectural sensitivity, and respect for the natural characteristics of stone. Travertine is not forced, but interpreted: its imperfections, variations, and structure become part of the design.
The project does not impose — it engages in dialogue. It is within this relationship that material finds a new contemporary expression.
The story behind Kléos is both a family story and an evolution of design language. The history of Società del Travertino Romano is also a story of family and Italian craftsmanship. Its origins date back to 1916, when Filippo Cecchetti began working in stone extraction and processing in the Roman travertine basin. Over time, this knowledge and passion were passed down through generations: first through Sergio Lippiello, who strengthened the company and its identity in the stone sector, and today through Filippo Lippiello, who continues this path with the same respect for tradition and a forward-looking vision. A family story that reflects the true spirit of Made in Italy. This body of knowledge evolved further in the 1980s and 1990s with the Officina Romana del Disegno — a visionary workshop where art, architecture, and craftsmanship came together to create travertine objects designed by figures such as Paolo Portoghesi, Gino Marotta, and Claudio Capotondi. Today, Kléos carries this legacy forward, reinterpreting it through contemporary design as an open and evolving system.
Kléos is featured in international publications and media dedicated to design and architecture. A narrative that moves through material, form, and vision.
