Kinkyō

Among the ten sculptures in the Kokeshi Art Collection, Kingyo stands out as the most introverted. Unlike Hasu, which ascends in a clear, vertical gesture, Kingyo curves inward, as if protecting something indescribable. Her silhouette, formed by two superimposed spheres, conveys a sense of containment and protection, highlighting the concept of gravity. The regularity of her carved hair, which has an almost architectural quality, balances the soft, rounded volumes beneath, creating a tension between control and vulnerability. Inspired by the calendula, a flower often linked to grief and remembrance, Kingyo invites viewers to look more closely.
